My Time in Paris
The furthest I have gone from home is France and specifically Paris. During my trip where I celebrated the 80th D-Day Anniversary, the end of our trip was in Paris. We got to tour many of the hotspots in Paris. From the Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe, to the Eiffel Tower. We got to see many places.
My favorite part was the Louvre. It was the place I had always wanted to go to when I was younger. Something about art and sculptures excited me. Now I knew the Mona Lisa was there but I was not excited for that part in particular. I was more interested in the Greek and Roman statues where I could see some Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. But I did find my favorite painting called Pandemonium. Pandemonium shows the depths of Earth opening up to some Hell/Hades. The Roman character is calling out and the empire is in the background.
My favorite statue was the Roman counterpart of Hermes called Mercury. As Hermes is a mythos I love and a deity I worship, I felt like honoring when taking this photo. I loved how it was placed in a window so there was outside light. It was very beautiful.
Along with everything else, my biggest accomplishment was climbing the Eiffel Tower. There are a total of 674 steps going to the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower (only up). As someone with asthma and weaker legs, I was not entirely sure I could make it up to the 2nd floor. I felt the pressure of it. Luckily the group I was with waited in intervals for me to climb the steps so I could pace myself. My favorite part was that as we climbed up the 2nd flight of stairs, you saw the back of the Olympic rings. Fun fact, people sign the inside of the rings!
So this is the furthest I have traveled from my home back in the United States. I would love to go back and explore the rest of the Louvre and explore the city of Paris again. It was fun to see all the sightseeing and speak the little French I knew. This is not all of the sights we saw. I plan to write more about this trip in due time.
